Petra - a historic and archaeological city with numerous structures carved into the rocks.
The following periods are distinguished in the development of Petra's architecture:
- Nabatean (3rd-2nd century BC),
- Hellenistic (1st century BC - 1st century AD),
- Roman (2nd-3rd century AD),
- Byzantine (4th-6th century AD).
The most famous examples of Petra's architecture are:
- Al-Khazneh (Treasury),
- en-Nejr theater,
- the Urn Tombs,
- Qasr al-Bint temple,
- Ad Deir (Monastery).
Within the ancient city are the Petra Archaeological Park (PAP), which covers an area of 264,000 square meters, and the Petra Museum with its 280 artifacts.
