Kanal opens its doors on Saturday 28 November at 10:00 and remains open without interruption until Sunday 29 November at 22:00. The first visitors can explore Kanal completely free of charge. To visit the ten opening exhibitions, however, you will need to book a time slot in advance. The rest of the building is wide open and fully accessible to everyone, no reservations or tickets required, offering a non-stop programme of live performances, opening ceremonies, concerts and DJ sets, films and installations, as well as workshops for kids and families.
Before the opening: 5 000 children at Kanal:
Although Kanal will begin welcoming the general public on 28 November, the museum is already coming to life in the days leading up to the official opening. Several events will mark this opening week, starting with a particularly symbolic day on Wednesday 25 November. On that day, Kanal wants children from schools in the Brussels-Capital Region to be the first to step through the doors of the new museum. Nearly 5 000 children from 27 neighbourhood schools with which Kanal has been working for several years will be the first to discover Kanal. A symbolic gesture that highlights Kanal’s commitment to build the new museum together with – and for – the publics of tomorrow. In the afternoon, it will be the turn of Kanal’s neighbours, along with dozens of local organisations and collectives, to explore the building and the exhibitions.
